The Bedington VFD is having a 30-day 50/50 cash raffle to benefit Berkeley County Lt. Jeremy Taylor and his family, as he battles stage IV cancer.
As stated recently on Eastern Panhandle Working Fires, once every generation or two, an individual in emergency services stands out above the rest. Jeremy Taylor is that individual. Jeremy and his family have a steep history of selfless service to the Eastern Panhandle. From his teenage years, Jeremy grew up in the Fountain fire house serving alongside his father as a firefighter and an EMT. He became a deputy sheriff and ultimately served Mineral County in the top spot as Sheriff for 8 years. Most would stop at a culmination of 20 service filled years, but not Jeremy. In addition to serving the high post of Fire Chief for Fountain Volunteer Fire Company he embarked on a firefighting career with Berkeley Fire where in a short time rose to the rank of Lieutenant. And as if that wasn't enough, Jeremy worked to get certified to instruct multitudes of fire and rescue classes, focusing on the more technical services such as auto extrication, swift water rescue, and the like. He is also a volunteer member of Baker Heights and Bedington Fire Departments.
His legacy is certainly rooted in our Eastern Panhandle fire and law enforcement services. He is a devoted father to three children and an incredible wife, who also selflessly serves as an EMT. It's likely that many of you who have to make that fateful call to 911 in an emergency, will be taken care of by folks who have served alongside Jeremy, have been taught by Jeremy, or have learned from someone to whom Jeremy has given knowledge, skills and abilities. The emergency services family is rallying behind Jeremy, and we hope you will to.
Jeremy has an amazing wife, Jennifer who has been by his side through this process, along with three beautiful daughters.
100% of the Bedington Fire Department share of this raffle will be donated to Jeremy’s wife to aide in Jeremy's treatments, lodging, and travel expenses for him and his family.
