How we Started:

When someone dumped a sick and elderly Cocker Spaniel at a park in Anthem, AZ, it was the last straw for resident Barbara Ward-Windgassen. There seemed to be no end to the number dogs and cats in need so Barb turned her frustration into action, invested everything she could, and founded Anthem Pets in 2005. Sadly, Barb lost her battle with cancer, but her dream lives on with the dedicated volunteers and fosters who work 365 days a year saving animals in need.

What we Do:

When a pet becomes the responsibility of Anthem Pets it receives a wellness check-up, is vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. We don’t have a shelter, so the pet will live with a foster family from the day of intake until it is adopted. Some rescued pets are sick or injured and we work with our veterinary partners to determine the best course of treatment for these animals. Veterinary care is our greatest expense and the reason why we fundraise throughout the year.

Anthem Pets Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, rescue organization dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their owners and helping homeless and abandoned dogs and cats. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and trainers we assist hundreds of animals every year, provide them with veterinary care and find well-matched, loving forever homes.
